5 Cool WhatsApp Tricks

With over 2 billion active users, WhatsApp is arguably the most popular instant messaging application out there. To attract users, WhatsApp has consistently introduced more and more features in the app every now and then. Currently, WhatsApp is packed with 100s of exciting features that make it a must-have app for our smartphones.

But do you really use WhatsApp to its full potential? Well, here I am going to share some of the best features of WhatsApp that will take your chatting experience to the next level.

So, without any further ado, let’s get started –

5 Cool WhatsApp Tricks

To make this list short and sweet, we have only included 5 WhatsApp tricks here.

Send Self Destructive Media Files

Do you want to send someone a media file but are confused if they can misuse it later? Even though WhatsApp’s “Delete for everyone” feature can be a lifesaver in such scenarios, that is not convenient as you have to delete files later manually.

To deal with this, WhatsApp has introduced the “View once” media option. This feature is similar to Snapchat’s self-destructive snaps feature, where sent media can only be opened once. Once the user exits the media viewer, the media files get deleted permanently. The user can never view those media files again.

Using this feature is also quite simple. You just need to follow these simple steps –

  • Open chat screen for that individual or group chat you want to send media files to.
  • Tap on the attach icon.
  • Now select the image or video file that you want to send.
  • Below, where you can add texts, you will see the “View once (1)” icon. Enable it.
  • Tap on the send button.

Whenever the receiver opens the media file, you will see the opened receipt, meaning that the recipient has viewed that file. The good thing is that you will receive an opened receipt even when the read receipt option is disabled.

Read WhatsApp messages without letting the sender know

Earlier, people used to turn off read receipts for this purpose, but the biggest problem with turning off read receipts is that read receipts for those texts just never get delivered even after enabling it later. This way, your recipient will know that you must have read their texts before but are replying to them now.

To deal with this, we have a much better trick, and the good thing here is that your recipients will never know that you have read their texts unless you reply to them.

  • The first thing you need to do is enable the flight mode on your smartphone.
  • Now, open WhatsApp and read the messages.
  • Once done reading, close the app and remove it from the multi-window to ensure that the app isn’t running in the background.
  • Restart your phone.
  • Disable flight mode.

Voila, you have read messages without informing the sender. Whenever you reply, they will get the read receipt of the time you replied to them.

Chat in different languages

Well, English isn’t your native language? No problem. WhatsApp supports over 40 languages on iPhone and over 60 worldwide languages on Android. Most commonly, you will find your native language in this catalog, and the good thing is, enabling these languages isn’t difficult at all.

There are two ways to use WhatsApp in your native language. You can change the default language of your smartphone, or you can follow these steps to change the language for WhatsApp only.

  • Open WhatsApp and tap on the three-dot icon.
  • Here, you need to select settings and then head over to the chat option.
  • Here, you will see the “App Language” option, tap on it and select the language you want.

Boom, now you can use WhatsApp in your desired language.

Add conversation shortcuts

Do you talk to your favorite person very often? If yes, then creating a conversation shortcut can be very helpful for you. It will save your time as you won’t need to scroll amongst all those unwanted chats just to reach your favorite person’s chat each time you want to talk to them.

To do that, you simply need to long-press on the conversation to select it and then tap on the three dots icon from the top right corner of your screen. There, you will see the “Add chat shortcut” option. Simply click on it, and you are done.

Send public invites privately

If you want to give a generic announcement or invite multiple people to a function or something, this trick will be a lifesaver for you. For example, suppose you are planning to invite multiple people to your birthday party, but you cannot announce it on WhatsApp status, or due to privacy reasons, you cannot create groups.

In such a scenario, you can create a broadcast list and add all the people you want to invite to that list. After that, you can create a customized invitation message and send it to that broadcast list, and your message will get delivered to all of the recipients you added to that list.
