How to Block a Website in Windows 7, 8, 10/ Chrome
There are many reasons why people want to block a website. Some parents want to prevent their children from browsing adult websites or some people want to block social media sites in the workplace to increase the productivity of their employees.

There is a simple way to block a website in Windows/Mac. Below I have clearly explained it step-by-step. Let’s follow the guide.

Step-by-Step Guide to block a website in Windows 10, 8, 7:
Step 1: To block a website on every browser, you need to make slight modifications to the Hosts file. Which will be located at C: Windows –>System32–>drivers–>etc
PS: The drive C: can be D: or E: where the OS has installed. So don’t panic if you are not able to find the hosts file specified in the above directory.
Step 2: Open the hosts file in Notepad as an administrator, at the end of the file contents, just add two lines shown in the image below.
Replace facebook.com with the desired website name.
Step 3: Now Save the hosts file and close it. Whenever someone tries to access the website will get an error like “this site can’t be reached“.
This way you can simply block access to websites across all browsers. However, If you are using Chrome Browser, there is a simple method to block a website. Just follow the section below.
How to block a website on Chrome using an extension
If you are not familiar with editing hosts files, there is an easy way by which you can simply block a website on chrome. Chrome always works with extensions. So you just need to install a Chrome extension called Block Sites.
Step 1: To Install Block Sites, Go to Chrome Webstore and search for Block Sites or follow this link.
Step 2: Click on Add to Chrome. This will add the extension to your Chrome browser.
Step 3: Just Open the extension, add a website which you want to block in the text field and click on Add page. It will simply block the website on Chrome now onwards.
The funny part with this extension is, it displays different messages each time when somebody tries to access the blocked sites.
You might think anybody who can simply bypass this by going to extension and removing the rule added previously. For that, you can use authentication field to put a password. When somebody trying to remove the site from blocked list, it will ask for the password. sounds good. is not it?
