As part of its efforts to combat inflation and rising gas prices, the Chicago City Council has introduced Chicago Moves.
The program will issue up to 50,000 gas cards at 150 dollars and 100,000 transit cards at 50 dollars to eligible residents.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in a press release that Chicago Moves is a win for all Chicago residents who struggle with transportation expenses.
As a result of this program, Chicago residents will be able to save their resources for other critical expenses and focus on their own desires and needs.
Thanks to my colleagues in City Council, for making this funding is available to our residents. It keeps them moving.
Who is eligible for Chicago's Gas Stimulus Payments?
Applicants must be eligible for the following:1. You Must be the residents of Chicago2. You must be at least 18 years old
3. Having a valid driver's license and correct vehicle mailing information4. Household income below the Chicago Area Median Income or at or below 100 percent
It's not just that. To get one of these payments, a lottery will be conducted from the second week of May until September.
A lottery application must be submitted by the first day of the month in order to be considered for that month's draw. There are only two weeks left to apply for the next round of payments.
What is the process for applying for Chicago's Gas Stimulus Payments?
Firstly, there is an online portal at Chicago.Gov/ChicagoMoves.
Another way to apply is to visit physically or mail them at ATTN: Dept. of Finance: Chicago Moves, 121 N. LaSalle St., 7th Floor, Chicago, IL 60602.
In addition, applicants may only apply for one prepaid gas card or prepaid transit card per household.
